Walmart tshirt settlement

This is Maestra Lucia Bellini, the scribe whose work was commandeered for the WalMart t-shirt, which was brought to my attention last year about this time.

I would like you all to know that today I received a settlement check from the company which manufactured the t-shirt. I can't divulge the amount according to the terms of the agreement I signed, but I felt it sufficient.

Please feel free to cross post this or otherwise get this information out on my behalf-- I would really like others to know that I appreciate all the support, and more especially, that there really is recourse when this happens.

And just in case, it never hurts to have "Copyright" and the date at the bottom of computer pages with your work, even though you and I both know that copyright attaches automatically when you do the work. It's just a good idea to remind them!

Scribe on!!

Congrats!!! Eventhough it sucked what they did at least they finally paid for it instead of giving you the run around.

Congratulations! I hope the amount was good enough to make up for the grief it caused!

BTW, now that the proper person has been acknowledged AND PAID for the work-- do you know if the tee is still available? I couldn't justify buying it when they had stolen your work, but I wouldn't mind having it now!

They've been remaindered-- my son has seen them at Dollar Stores, for example. They might be kinda hard to find but I expect there are still some out there. Thanks for the show of support!

Yay! Now if only I could have enjoyed the same success with that Canadian 'bucket shop' that misappropriated my article on Animal Blazonry.

I'm sorry! I gotta say, I am amazed that I got anything at all. My entry the day I heard about the shirt said as much--"Rather, I see the scrappy artist and her intrepid attorneys being flattened by phalanxes of minions of the soulless corporation, marching in lockstep. Roadkill." Of course I couldn't even find "intrepid attorneys", but instead one lone paralegal. Ya just never know.

I am so glad to see an artist win one of these things without having to buy an army of lawyers first.

Just one very, very good, supportive paralegal who lives in Trimaris. And one very pissed off artist.

Excellent! I'm so glad you followed through on that. So many just feel there is no point. The copy right laws are not there just to protect the big names. They are there for us too. Thank you for sharing the update as well. It's funny, because just the other day, I was wondering about the whole situation and thinking of posting to the scribal list to see if anyone had heard anything...

Now, you can't tell us how much the settlement was for, but you can tell us what wonderful new books you just happen to get this year. (wicked grin)

Thanks again for scoring for the team and reminding us to protect ourselves.

I'm glad you received some compensation. I'm a freelance illustrator, as well, so copyright infringement burns my butt! Yay you!

Just so ecstatic for you. I've heard such horror stories of late of copyright infringement it's nice to see you've had some resolution.

I certainly hope you take some of your settlement and get something nice at Pennsic you've always been wanting to get!

Excellent, I just found this link via the current issue of copyright that [info]illadore is dealing with.

Very glad to hear that you received a settlement. (And I saw the tshirts in Walmart, you have a nice hand)
